Weapons can be upgraded by normal use (automatically collecting nanomites from fallen enemies) and by using Raritanium (a rare mineral found in the universe).

Ratchet levels up as he defeats enemies and gains more health points. In these sections, Clank must manipulate gravity and solve puzzles to get the Nether back to the portal in order to cause an “earthquake” and destroy the barrier blocking the duo’s way. In certain portions of the game, the player takes control of Clank in side scroller-esque trips though the Netherverse. Ratchet is aided in his movement by Clank using the Heli Pack to propel himself forward, or to hover safely to the ground. Ratchet and Clank: Into the Nexus is a third person action shooter with puzzle elements.
